I had one of the most traumatic moving experiences of my life. I will tell you al about it. First--I missed the Jr. USA's and didn't get to see one of my best fiends *Malea Jensen" take fifth and the show. I was packing all weekend---the final boxes left to conclude the horrific experience, called MOVING.
I have realized a few things during this experience. First-----It is confirmed that I have not thrown anything away in over 5 years of living at 2 Washington Sq. It is so upsetting. I still can't believe that I don't live there anymore. So, please make a note----for those that sent me things --- Please use MY PO BOX.
Okay, back to the story. Saturday, Isabella ( my new roommate) did nothing but work on the apartment. The OLD apartment that is. You have to remember, was Illegally subletting from a women in Florida. She has been subletting to various people for over 10 years. The apartment was filled with stuff--------everywhere. I didn't know what was mine, hers, or people that lived their prior to me. It was a confusing mess. I found stuff ------you wouldn't believe. To be honest----I have been living with this annoying mouse-----I couldn't get rid of it no matter what I tried to do. Well------GOOD BYE little mouse. I will not that annoying aspect of living there. But- to tell you the truth, I loved my old apartment. It wasn't FABULOUS, it was just a BIG studio with a balcony. But-----it rocked. I had a doorman, elevator, laundry in the building, package delivery room, and pretty much everything else. Oh yes, the Balcony. That was the best. I loved to look outside my window and see downtown Manhattan. I lived on the 16th floor------it was beautiful. I loved it. I really did. The worst part about this whole thing------I didn't want to move. It is one thing-------when you want to move--------but, I was so happy there.
As you can probably tell- I am being nostalgic. I will get used to my new surroundings, being that I am still in the same neighborhood. It is just that -------never mind.
So---the big move began at 8 a.m. It was off to a rough start. The lock on the door to the building------was not provided when we signed the lease. So- we had to ring doorbells like maniacs until someone answered the buzzer and let us in. Then, the locks on the door----where changed. Now--what was I going to do. I wanted to start getting some things in before the movers b/c I was paying $100/hour to have my things moved. Thank god my new apartment was on the ground floor and my old apartment had an elevator. It ended up taking the movers over 5 hours to compete the job, bringing the grand total to $600.00, can you imagine.
So, Anthony and my dear friend Don drove up to help with the process. Basically , it was three men and a truck, Two guys and a car, myself and my roommate. The day began at 8 a.m.,. and didn't stop until 2 a.m. I barely had time to eat. It was a LONG LONG DAY. I still haven't slept. I have to clean up the old apartment and make sure that I don't acquire anymore expenses.
This whole move has cost me over $1000 and the apartment, forget about. I had to give 2 months security, first month & last month rent. Also- change the locks ( $150), Pay movers ( >$600), Install Cable, phone ( > $150) --- the amount of money never ends. I just can't believe what you get for $1640. New York City just isn't right.
