I have gotten many fans e-mailing me wanting to know more about WHO I WAS before I became a bodybuilder. In writing this-- I had to do a lot of self-reflection. I had to think about who I am without the identity I created for myself. I am now -- a bodybuilder. For many years--- I never felt like a REAL bodybuilder. Sure, I have been lifting since I was 19 years old, but, what right did I have calling myself a bodybuilder. I never competed, I just liked lifting heavy. I always wondered if I would ever get to that point-- of calling myself a REAL bodybuilder.

I think that is why competition is so addicting-- it is a certain validation. It is like getting a diploma-- you don't get any MONEY for that-- not unless you use it. It is a silly analogy-- but, similar just the same.

I have always been a TYPE A personality. Ever since I was a child-- I loved to be the center of attention. I started dancing when I was 6 years old and did everything I could to be in the lime light. I was in a singing choir in high school, I was a cheerleader, in an elite singing group, danced for the school, was on the honor society, and ran for class president. I was insatiable. I couldn't be stopped. I had no LIFE while I was in high school- I just was involved in too many activities.

When I went to MSU-- I ran the aerobics program. I started training with weights and really fell in love with the whole bodybuilding world. I never realized the counterproductive nature of teaching so many aerobics classes had on my bodybuilding. It wasn't until I moved to New York and was finishing my master's degree that I couldn't teach as much and had to focus on my weight training. This is when I started to really notice my body changing.

Colette "The Bodybuilder" is not really who I am. I actually enjoy working in the field of diabetes education and as a nutritionist. I still actively work with Type 1 diabetics in their pursuit of tight blood sugar contol. I currently have several doctors that still refer patients to me. My world continues to progress in different artisit directions.

My new passion is website development and contest posing routine choreography. You can have the perfect physique, be in the best condition, but; if your tan, hair, make-up, posing presentation is OFF-- it could cost your your placing. It is very important to pay attention to detail. I have had the opportunity to choreograph 5 routines this year. I am looking forward to doing more.
